Great read: Is Classical Liberalism for Losers

https://www.thefp.com/p/tyler-cowen-is-classical-liberalism-for-losers

Classical liberals can be on the center right or the center left. They can as easily be registered Republicans as registered Democrats. What they share is a philosophy that believes in strong limits on state power; a reliance on democratic procedures and constitutional constraints; a belief in capitalism and innovation as the wellsprings of progress; and strong support for toleration and free speech. Classical liberalism also implies that the state should be relatively neutral across competing cultural values, and that one should not presuppose that one’s own political rule will always be so wonderful. Classical liberalism necessitates a good dose of humility for this reason.

The classical liberal, in contrast, expresses the more complicated message. It goes something like: “less government rule and extend progress, while respecting due process, the rule of law, and compromise!”
