Thoughts on Full Tuition
As Manfred said, changing this is a cost to us: in application competitiveness and presumably research dollars available.
Of course, we're happy to do our part for the department, but it would be good to more about the basic situation and the expected benefits of this cost.
How big is the department deficit? How much has it changed recently? How does it compare to other departments? How much of this is due to the accounting model ?
What is going to happen to the extra tuition being charged? What fraction would go to the Department/College/University? How much would be made available to us? Would it be discretionary spending? etc.
Historically, why was the requested amount 55%? Do we think jumping from 55% straight to 100% is really the right move, especially in the current funding environment?
