To write up
- Spurious signal test is needed when you need background precision
- We effectively acess variance and bias in Fourier space…transform the svb
Hoops/SR
- Good Runs… Good wins.. Played well … Covering spreads

Describe why your organization will be a good Shapley Lecture host site:
Pittsburgh is a hub for astronomy. The University of Pittsburgh (PITT) hosts the Pittsburgh Particle Physics Astrophysics and Cosmology Center (PITTPACC) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) hosts the McWilliams Center for Cosmology & Astrophysics. The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh (AAAP) has 500 active members. We have a vibrant public education community, which includes seven institutes for higher education and lifelong learning centers (OSHER) at PITT and CMU. We have strong connections with local public libraries, the Pittsburgh public schools, the Kamin Science Center and Allegheny Observatory.
Additional Events you can offer.
We will plan a public star party at the Allegheny Observatory (13in refractor telescope) with career talk and Q&A session beforehand.
Audience Type
We will attract high-school students, undergraduates, public library patrons, disabled American veterans, and students in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes.
The Pittsburgh public schools have a significant fraction of historically underrepresented students. We will advertise throughout Pittsburgh, including a monthly newsletter (Pgh Constellation) with over 1,000 local subscribers.
Expected audience size
500 (Lecture) /150 (Star Party)
School type
R1
Potential Partner Organizations
University of Pittsburgh Allegheny Observatory
Scheduling Preferences

Preferred Scientific Topics
No strong preference on topic, but would like something relatively broad in scope. e.g.:
- Life in the universe
- Future of astronomy
Preferred Speaker Background
Again no strong preferce, but we perfer someone who is relatively well know.
