Niavely marketcap is a measure of how much available money is left to flow into an asset. eg: when marketcap approaches GDP, expect growth to stallout. This breaks down in cryptocurrency in cases where a large fraction of the supply is effectively frozen or when price rapidly changes.
Q: What is a better metric? A: Sum of resources contributed. (eg: sum of money invested, not the sum of current value. A: Fraction of people (weighted by thier wealth) who are invested in asset.
