Proxy data sets are critical for assessing systematic uncertainties when you have important data-driven backgrounds (eg: HH→4b). Examples of proxy datasets in the 4b analysis are: shifted validation regions, the 3b dataset, and synthetic datasets from hemisphere mixing.
