Curtis Mail 16 May 2025: Strategic Planning Subcommittee
Our job is to ultimately refine the goals and metrics under the Innovation Collaboration Research Partnerships iniative
Want 2-3 goals that are a subset of these
Rough plan p7.
Notes on the Issue/Oppurtunity
"To drive breakthrough discoveries and expand global impact, we must continually enhance and accelerate cross-disciplinary research within MCS, foster partnerships with academics, industry, and government, and optimize our physical and systems infrastructure, enabling seamless collaboration and synergy.
By optimizing resource allocation and increasing research opportunities within and between departments, peer institutions, industry, and government, we can position ourselves as a "
Odd not to mention collaboration with other colleges. Perhaps our biggest opportunity?
Proposed Goals
- Expand interdisciplinary research initiatives that foster collaboration across
departments, institutions, and industries.
-> Again no monetion of cross college collaboration
- Optimize and expand research infrastructure, including cloud-based laboratories, instrumentation, and sustainable facilities.
-> I guess we have some experince now with cloud-based laboratories. Is this an area we still think is promising given what we have learned ?
Appendix A
- Increase cross-departmental research collaborations by 30% by 2027, measured by joint faculty projects, co-authored publications, and interdisciplinary grant awards.
-> Agian, this should be not just internal to MCS
Launch a centralized MCS research initiative framework by 2026 to align research priorities, streamline funding applications, and enhance visibility of collaborative projects.
-> Why not at the University level ?
Ideas
