A few things that actually work:

Pull the insoles out and let everything air-dry separately after wearing — moisture is the root cause Sprinkle baking soda inside, leave overnight, shake out in the morning Stuff with crumpled newspaper or dry tea bags to absorb moisture and odor Freeze them in a sealed plastic bag overnight (kills the bacteria causing the smell) For stubborn cases, lightly spray inside with a 50/50 white vinegar and water mix, then air-dry fully Replace the insoles if they've been soaked through repeatedly — they hold onto odor more than the shoe itself

Going forward, rotating between two pairs and wearing moisture-wicking socks makes the biggest difference.

Start with pulling the insoles out and airing everything overnight, then sprinkle baking soda inside the shoes and on the insoles. It's the lowest effort and handles most cases. If they still smell after a day or two, escalate to the freezer trick or the vinegar spray.
