ProgressReport 8 May 2026
Life has been good. Steph is starting to draw a real salary again which will help with our petty cash. My meditation improving. On the exercise front, I am taking a break on BJJ, but am starting to get into stretching, it feels so good. I need to make this a habit. I've been very happy with my writting. I have started to post weekly blog posts and have kept up the pace nicely.
Some recent social stuff: Steve invited me to the Pens playoff game; it was awesome. I should buy him tix for Courtney Barnett. I did the draft with H. Not much to do really, but good to ride down and see all the excitement. Date nights are back! Maybe we will get some more of these with the influx of petty cash. We hosted a dinner party: Pencos and Caspers.
Lots of departures. Seth leaves; I got very emotional in my goodbye speach. Elvin and Art graduated; again I got pretty emotional saying goodbye to them. It is strange what make me sad and what doesn't… should try to use more mindfulness in these moments.
AI going strong. I bumped to max accounts and I am now putting the PlainText accounting through the paces. Claude code is now my default workflow for any work I want to do.
Lots of action on the AirBNB front. I bumped the prices based on Superhost status and I took the shed down. We actually got the full 5421 mortage this month !!! We have also already hit it in May.
On the 4b side the Run2+3 paper has finally been submitted. I should really clean up my EOS now. I have made solid progress on MvD. I have put this into slides and showed the group. This looks like it will work. I have also put a lot of effort into getting proper workflows in Snakemake. This of course has all been done with Claude. The mixed data is nearly complete and the nomal Run3 (including FvT training is in place and working well). There was a lot of work in debugging our FenynNet implementation. I now see the same distribution as the others and fixed the 3b mismodelling. I would say we still dont understand why the low Pt isnt as sensititive. This is something that AE needs to push on.
In bbWW Aniket has made a lot of progress this semester. He will present this to the wider group soon.
On the HGC side, MMTS remains the number one issue. Progress here has been choppy. We are waiting to get the dewpoint down, and then should be good to go on module testing. Lots of personel action: Austin accepted and then declined. Cooper was in then he was part time. Shrindini accepts! I have an offer out to Brennan at PITT… looks like he will also accept. I have a couple feelers out for more… but no applications yet.
