The silicon modules baseplate in the calorimeter endcap slide from Steve’s plenary on slide 23 indicated a current quality issue, where 1500 baseplates have already been made.
Does this current quality issue affect the 1500 or is this for the ones that are left to be produced?
A: The QC problem (delamination of the Kapton multi-layer from the Ti baseplate) is delaying future module production; it does not impact the 1500 that have already been produced.
This problem was not seen in previous batches of Ti baseplates. We have done a series of thermal stress tests on modules that have already been produced. These studies indicate that modules which pass QC should be OK long-term.
Did this issue affect the original timeline of being complete?
Yes, this is a blocker for production. The October 2027 expected finish shown in Steve's slides assumes module production resumes in September. The expected finish depends linearly on when production can resume.
Trying to understand what is the quality issue as I may have missed what the issue was and the resolution.
This technical issue and its impact will be presented in more detail Wednesday morning. The Executive Summary is that production is on hold until baseplates become available. International partners (KIT, CERN) are highly engaged in solving the problem. We currently believe this will be remedied by surface preparation. We expect a robust solution in place by end of August, which would allow production to resume in September.

Summary:
- Actual burn rate is 190k / month
- We can save 3310 - 2457 = 853k witih 16/day starting in September
- Spares we can probably save 1/4 of the 4% and have enough for testbeams. Maybe more if the yeild goes up
