When a decision feels hard, it's usually because the options are nearly equal in value. The difficulty is not a signal to deliberate longer — it's a signal that the stakes of choosing wrong are low. When options are close, you can go fast.

People spend the most time on decisions that matter least (because the options are close) and not enough time on decisions where the options are far apart (which are actually easy). The closeness of options is evidence that either choice is acceptable — so the cost of deliberation exceeds the expected value of the extra time. Decide fast and move on.
